Las Malloas

Take the NA-130 Lekunberri to San Sebastián road.

There are several different departure points leading up to the Malloas from the Araitz Valley, such as the Forestry building on the road to the sanctuary and Lizarrusti. Visitors are recommended to consult information leaflets and books on Aralar.

The face of the Aralar mountain range that is oriented towards the Araitz Valley and Betelu is known as “las Malloas”. It is a cirque made up of a series of peaks, the highest of which is the 1,430-metre “Torre de Intza” or “Irumugarrieta”. The Malloas dominate the villages of the Araitz Valley and are reminiscent of the peaks of the upper Pyrenees.

Las Malloas: "meadow, grassland". This is what the people who live in the area call the grass that grows amongst the crags.
