The typical architecture of the region forms an integral part of the beauty of these valleys. The majority of the villages are built with the parish church as its nucleus and from this point the narrow streets extend, flanked by large stone houses with attractive wooden balconies; many of the facades are adorned with baroque coats of arms indicating nobility.

The interior layout of the houses is typical of that of a mountainous farming region: ground floor for cattle or other livestock and farming equipment; first floor for the living area; and the second floor or "gambara", for storing hay, corn, etc.

The old shelters used by shepherds known as "txabolas" have evolved from the primitive “arkuek” (stone structures with a false dome) to the “bordas” of today which maintain the original façade but are better conditioned and equipped with various modcons.
