On the way out of the village is the the hermitage of our lady of Pilar whose saint’s day is celebrated on 12th October which also marks the start of the village’s fiestas

Lekunberri is set just beneath the A-15 dual carriageway and is the capital of the Larraun valley; it has had an independent town council since 1995. It has 1486 inhabitants and is a commercial, industrial and services centre.

Today, the old Plazaola railway station houses the Tourist Office and the Plazaola Tourism Consortium headquarters.

The 14th-century gothic church, la iglesia de San Juan Bautista, is impressive with its Romanesque remains and 13th-centruy baptismal font.

The large, attractive houses date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, although there are even older houses such as casa Alkatanea, which is late gothic dating back to the 16th century.
